Saved materials, looks and rigs
Tuned a surface just right, or found a lighting setup you love? Save it, and reuse it with one click. Paraplex saves three kinds of thing: materials for surfaces, scene looks for a scene's light and grade, and lighting rigs for its lights.
They're saved in the project, and travel with its brand kit and design system, so other projects can use them too.
Materials
A material is how a surface looks: its color, roughness, metalness, gloss and see-through.
- Select a shape or text with the material you want.
- Choose Menu › Materials › Save current material…. It's saved as "layer name material", and the layer now follows it.

To use it, select other layers and pick it in Menu › Materials, where it's tagged saved. Layers that follow a saved material change with it: change one, then choose Update followed material… to send the change to every layer that follows it. See Materials and appearances.
Scene looks
A scene look is the scene's environment, exposure, tone mapping, ambient occlusion and bounce light, its grade (bloom, contrast, saturation, grain) and its film overlay.
- Set the scene up the way you like.
- Choose Menu › Scene looks › Save current look…. It's named after the environment, such as "Studio Soft look".
Pick a look in Menu › Scene looks to apply it, as one undo step. Copy look link shares a look as a link. See Scene looks and Randomize.
Lighting rigs
A lighting rig is the scene's lights: their kinds, places, colors and strengths.
- Add and place your lights. See Lighting and environments.
- Choose Menu › Lighting rigs › Save current lights…. It's named after its lights, such as "3 light rig".
Pick a rig in Menu › Lighting rigs to use it in another scene.
Important
Applying a lighting rig replaces the scene's lights. Press ⌘ Z (Ctrl Z) to get the old ones back.
